Diabetic Ulcers
Diabetic ulcers are open wounds or sores that often occur on the feet of individuals with Diabetes. These ulcers result from decreased blood flow, poor circulation, and/or chronic nerve damage in the feet (peripheral neuropathy). They are a serious complication of Diabetes, as they can lead to other health problems, including bone and joint infections, and, if left untreated, even amputation of the affected limb. Proper wound care is essential in the management of diabetic ulcers, including careful debridement of the wound and dressing changes to promote healing. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove dead tissue and promote healing. Maintaining good diabetic foot care, including regular diabetes screening, is critical in the prevention of diabetic ulcers.
