Tropical Biomedicine

Tropical Biomedicine is a branch of medical science that studies the causal relationships between tropical environment, lifestyle, and disease. It explores the intersections of health, exposure, and vulnerability in tropical regions, where many diseases have a greater impact and are more difficult to diagnose and treat than in developed countries. Tropical Biomedicine helps medical professionals with early detection and management of diseases, as well as to develop solutions to widespread health problems in developing countries. Its research furthermore serves to provide insights into the genetics of disease, to understand the environmental drivers of emerging infectious diseases, and to support translational research initiatives that translate research findings into practice. Tropical Biomedicine thus has profound implications for global health, and is a key field of research for improving diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of tropical diseases.
