Schistosomiasis

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease that is spread through contact with contaminated water. It affects more than 200 million people around the world, primarily in developing countries. Symptoms may include skin irritation, fever, anemia, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Left untreated, the disease can cause severe damage to the bladder, intestines and liver, and can be fatal. Treatment involves taking medications and other measures to prevent infection, and improved sanitation and hygiene to reduce the risk of transmission. Increased awareness and better public health measures are needed to reduce the prevalence of this disease.
