Cysticercosis

Cysticercosis is a parasitic infection caused by the larvae of the pork tapeworm. It is primarily a disease of humans and pigs, but can also occur in other animals. The most common symptom is the presence of cysts in the tissues of the body, typically in the muscles, eyes, brain, and spinal cord. If left untreated, cysticercosis can cause serious neurological symptoms, including seizures, blindness, and even death. Treatment is possible with antiparasitic drugs and surgical removal of the cysts. Cysticercosis is an important cause of neurological disease in many parts of the world and is an important public health problem.
