Gene Targeting
Gene targeting is a technique used by scientists to modify the genetic makeup of an organism by altering one or more of its genes. It is a powerful tool for studying gene function, identification of disease causing genes, and development of new treatments for diseases. By manipulating genes, scientists can create more accurate animal models for human diseases and can study how diseases occur and how they can be treated. Gene targeting also enables the production of animals with improved characteristics, such as disease resistance and higher productivity. This can result in healthier, more productive animals and higher yields of food or pharmaceutical products. In addition, gene targeting can be used to produce genetically modified organisms, which can be used in industrial, agricultural, and medical applications.
