Orbital Cellulitis
Orbital cellulitis is an infection of the tissue of the orbit, the bony cavity that encases and protects the eye, which is usually caused by bacteria. Symptoms include redness and swelling of the eye, pain, fever and impaired vision. Left untreated, orbital cellulitis can lead to blindness or permanent vision loss. Treatment includes antibiotics, sometimes surgery, and in some cases, intravenous (IV) antibiotics. Orbital cellulitis is a serious medical condition and should be treated promptly to avoid serious complications.
