Mismatch Repair

Mismatch repair is an important DNA repair process. It is used by cells to identify and fix errors that arise during DNA replication. When the process is functioning correctly, it ensures that the replicated DNA sequence is the same as the original template strand. Mismatch repair is important in preventing genetic mutations, ensuring that generations of cells have a correct, intact copy of the genetic information. In humans, mutations in mismatch repair genes can lead to an increased risk of some cancer types. Mismatch repair is therefore a vital process that helps maintain the accuracy of the genetic code.
