Mesoderm

Mesoderm is the middle layer of cells in the early stages of embryonic development. It has significant implications in the formation of many organs and is usually divided into two sections: the paraxial mesoderm (which develops into the axial skeleton and muscles) and the lateral plate mesoderm (which gives rise to the circulatory, reproductive, and urinary systems). Mesoderm also forms precursors of the dermis and fat layers of the skin, as well as connective tissue of the head, neck, and limbs. Its formation is critical for the successful development of organisms and has strong implications in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
