Lumpectomy

A lumpectomy is a surgical procedure in which a lump in the breast is removed. It is most commonly used to treat early stages of breast cancer, as well as other non-cancerous breast lumps. During a lumpectomy, the surgeon removes the entire tumor as well as some surrounding tissue. A lumpectomy can be performed alone or in combination with other treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy. Studies have shown that a lumpectomy can be an effective way to treat early stage breast cancer and can result in a good prognosis. It can also reduce the risk of the cancer recurring, making it a useful tool for many women with breast cancer.
