Defensins

Defensins are small proteins with a crucial role in the body's innate immune system. They make up a major component of antiviral and antibacterial defense, preventing microbial or viral infection by forming pores in the cell wall of microorganisms. Furthermore, they have been linked to cancer prevention, the regulation of inflammatory responses, and the maintenance of gut health. Defensins are therefore very important to immune system homeostasis and its disruption can lead to a variety of immunological disorders.
