Conization
Conization is a medical procedure that involves the removal of a cone-shaped piece of tissue from the cervix (opening of the uterus). It is primarily used to diagnose or treat abnormal growths, such as pre-cancerous cells or cervical cancer. The procedure is also referred to as a cone biopsy or loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). During the conization procedure, an electrically-heated wire loop is used to cut and remove the tissue, which is then examined under a microscope for further analysis. Conization is an important procedure that allows for early identification and treatment of abnormal cellular growths, thus reducing the risk of cancer progression and improving patient outcome.
