Collagens
Collagens are proteins which are the major component of the extracellular matrix in animals. They provide the structural framework for tissue, store energy, and act as biochemical scaffolds for other molecules. Collagens are essential for providing support and strength to skin and other tissues. Through the years, researchers have developed numerous collagen-based therapeutics for the treatment of several medical conditions including but not limited to wound healing, osteoarthritis, and skin diseases. Collagens also show potential use in new medical treatments, such as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and gene therapy.
