Adrenal Glands

The adrenal glands are walnut-sized organs located on top of the kidneys. They play a key role in the body's responses to stress, producing hormones such as adrenaline, cortisol and aldosterone. These hormones influence metabolism, immunity, cardiovascular system, reproductive system, as well as other body systems. Therefore they are essential for many body functions, including regulating the body's energy levels, helping the body respond to stress and controlling the body's blood pressure and levels of salt in the blood. An imbalance or dysfunction of the adrenal glands can lead to various health issues such as fatigue, weight loss, or weight gain. Treatment of adrenal gland problems may involve diet and lifestyle changes as well as medication.
