Thyroid Hormones
Thyroid hormones are hormones produced by the thyroid gland, located in the neck below the Adam’s Apple. These hormones are essential for the proper functioning of the human body, as they regulate metabolic rate, influence growth and development, and help maintain normal brain function. Thyroid hormones are also necessary for proper physical and mental development in infants and children. Imbalances in thyroid hormone levels can lead to a variety of diseases including hypothyroidism, which is a decrease in hormone production, and hyperthyroidism, which is an excess of hormone production. Treatment of thyroid disorders is essential as they can be associated with long-term health problems. Thyroid hormone levels are monitored through blood tests, and treatment is usually managed by an endocrinologist.
