Radioactive Iodine Scan
A radioactive iodine scan is an imaging test that uses a small amount of radioactive material — a type of iodine isotope — to help diagnose diseases such as thyroid cancer. This test helps in evaluating the size and location of a lump within the thyroid gland and to determine if a cancerous tumor has spread to other parts of the body. This test is safe, non-invasive and painless, allowing doctors to make an accurate diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan. It is the primary tool used in the diagnosis and staging of thyroid cancer.
