Hypoparathyroidism

Hypoparathyroidism is a condition that occurs when the body cannot produce enough parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone is essential in controlling calcium levels in the blood and tissues. Symptoms may include muscle cramps, tingling in the fingers and toes, and anxiety. Treatment includes supplementation with calcium and active vitamin D, as well as medications to supplement the missing PTH. Proper diagnosis and treatment of hypoparathyroidism is important in order to prevent further complications, such as calcification of the soft tissues. The long-term management of hypoparathyroidism involves lifestyle changes and regular monitoring of calcium levels to ensure optimal health.

Most nodules are cysts filled with fluid or with a stored form of thyroid hormone called colloid. Solid nodules have little fluid or colloid. These nodules are more likely to be cancerous than are fluid-filled nodules. Some types of solid nodules, such as hyperplastic nodules and adenomas, have too many cells, but the cells are not cancer cells.
