Thrombophilia
Thrombophilia is a medical condition that results in an increased tendency for the formation of blood clots. It is caused by an abnormality or deficiency of certain proteins in the blood that help regulate the clotting process. People with this condition are at higher risk for stroke, heart attacks, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Treatment for thrombophilia typically seeks to reduce the risk of clotting by giving anticoagulants, such as warfarin or heparin. In more serious cases, more aggressive treatments may be used, such as intravenous thrombolytics or surgical interventions. It is an important condition to be aware of, as it can be life-threatening if not managed properly.
