Embolism and Thrombosis
Embolism and thrombosis are two key medical conditions affecting the circulation of the blood in the body. An embolism occurs when a blood clot, fat, air, or other material travels through the bloodstream, blocking a blood vessel. This can lead to organ damage, stroke, or even death. Thrombosis is the formation of a clot within a blood vessel, which can cause a decrease in blood flow and, in severe cases, ischemic stroke or heart attack. Both conditions can be the result of certain medical conditions, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), heart disease, diabetes, cancer, trauma, and pregnancy. Treatment of these conditions can involve the use of anticoagulants, thrombolytic agents, or surgery, depending on the severity. It is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of both embolism and thrombosis in order to seek prompt medical attention and prevent further damage to the body.
