Epigenomics

Epigenomics is the study of the patterns of epigenetic modifications (chemical changes to DNA) to the genome of a cell. It is an emerging field of study in the biological sciences as it has the potential to explain different biological processes, such as development, differentiation, and aging. Epigenomic information can be used to understand how different environments can impact gene expression and how these effects can be passed from one generation to the next. In addition, it has been used to investigate the potential roles of epigenetic modifications in the development of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and neurological disorders. The study of epigenomics is therefore important for both basic research and medical applications, and is expected to lead to a better understanding of the molecular basis of health and disease.
