Shin Splints

Shin splints, also known as medial tibial stress syndrome, is a common lower leg injury. It is characterized by pain, swelling and tenderness along the shinbone (tibia). The pain can range from mild to severe and is typically worse with physical activity such as running, jumping, and walking. It can be caused by several factors such as overuse of the lower leg, improper form or technique during physical activity, inadequate warm up and stretching, or a sudden increase in physical activity. Treatment often involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE). Additionally, strengthening exercises, physical therapy, and orthotics may help alleviate symptoms and provide long-term relief. It is important to seek medical attention to ensure an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
