Steatosis

Steatosis (also known as fatty liver) is the accumulation of fat in the liver cells of an individual. It is a common condition, occurring in those who drink too much alcohol, those who are obese and those with certain metabolic diseases. It can lead to serious liver damage and cirrhosis if left untreated. Several treatments are available to treat steatosis including lifestyle changes such as weight loss, exercise and a balanced diet, as well as medications such as insulin sensitizers, vitamins and anti-inflammatory agents. It is important to seek medical attention if steatosis is suspected since it can be a sign of an underlying health problem.
