Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the study of how diseases are spread and the factors that influence their transmission. It is a major field of public health, particularly important for its role in identifying, preventing, and treating infectious diseases. Epidemiological studies have the potential to generate findings that can inform policy makers, health care providers, and the public. Through its use of techniques such as case-control studies, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials, epidemiology attempts to quantify the risk factors associated with particular diseases. In addition, epidemiological research can provide insight into potential interventions that can reduce the burden of illness, improve quality of life, and reduce overall health care costs.
