Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are molecules made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms in the ratio of 1:2:1 respectively. They are an essential macronutrient found in many foods and play an essential role in human nutrition. Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy and help to maintain normal brain and nervous system functioning. They are also important for the growth and maintenance of body tissues, as well as for fat and protein metabolism. In addition, complex carbohydrates are important for the absorption of vitamins and minerals. Foods high in carbohydrates include grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and dairy products.
