Spondylitis
Spondylitis is an inflammatory condition that affects the spine and other areas of the body, resulting in pain, stiffness and fatigue. It is a type of spondyloarthritis, an umbrella term used to describe a group of inflammatory conditions that can affect the spine, hips, and other parts of the body. With spondylitis, there is typically ankylosis, or fusion, of the spine, leading to decreased mobility. Treatment options for spondylitis include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs. Surgery is also an option for those who do not respond to other treatments. Early diagnosis and close monitoring are important for controlling the symptoms of spondylitis to decrease pain, improve mobility, and improve quality of life.
