Sleep Disorder
Sleep disorder is a broad term which encompasses various conditions, such as insomnia, sleep apnea and narcolepsy, which disrupt normal, healthy sleeping patterns. These disorders can have a significant impact on the physical health and mental wellbeing of individuals affected by them, as they often lead to chronic fatigue, impaired cognitive and motor functions, and increased risk of cardiovascular issues. Treatment of sleep disorders typically involves lifestyle changes, cognitive behavioural therapy, medications and, in severe cases, surgery. Good sleep hygiene, such as avoiding caffeine and exercising regularly, as well as making sure the sleeping environment is comfortable, can help reduce the severity of symptoms. In some cases, medical implants can be used to stimulate the brain to produce sleep-promoting hormones, such as melatonin.
