Phrenology

Phrenology is a pseudoscience based on the belief that certain areas of the brain are responsible for certain mental faculties and traits of character. It was popular in the 19th century, but has since been discredited due to lack of scientific evidence. Still, its legacy remains in the form of tools and methods for analyzing the shape and topography of the human head. These techniques are still used in some areas of psychology, neurology and criminology, mainly to understand how different parts of the brain are related to behavior, personality and intelligence. Phrenology is also widely used in counselling and psychotherapy. Additionally, some experts believe that it could complement other fields of study, such as genetics and neuroscience.
