Paravertebral Block
Paravertebral block is a type of regional anesthesia in which local anesthetics are injected into the paravertebral space, or the area just outside the vertebral column, to relieve pain. It is commonly used to provide analgesia for thoracic, abdominal and lower limb surgeries, with the primary goal of decreasing the requirement of general anesthetics and opioids. Paravertebral block has been found to decrease postoperative pain, reduce opioid use and increase patient satisfaction, with relatively low associated risk.
