Mental Illness
Mental illness, or mental health disorder, is an umbrella term for a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. These illnesses are significant in the sense that they can have a profound effect on a person's thoughts, emotions, and behavior, and going untreated can lead to a decrease in a person's functioning in different areas of life. Mental illness is treatable with proper medical and psychological help, and treatment can improve quality of life, reduce symptoms, and help individuals become more emotionally stable. Mental health services can range from psychotherapy, to medication, to assisted living and community support.
