Ependymoma
Ependymoma is a type of brain tumor that arises from cells lining the brain and spinal cord called ependymal cells. It is most common in children and is the most common form of brain tumor in this age group. It can occur anywhere in the brain or spinal cord and can cause a wide range of symptoms, such as headaches, seizures, weakness, vision or balance problems, nausea, and vomiting. Ependymoma is generally treated with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these. Depending on the tumor location, degree of malignancy, and patient's age, treatment plans will vary from case to case. As treatments for ependymoma continue to improve, there is hope for a better quality of life for those affected.
