Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory condition affecting the spine and other joints. Symptoms include chronic pain and stiffness in the spine and hips, sometimes worse at night and in the morning. In severe cases, it can cause a kyphosis (bowed spine) which may affect the chest and organs, leading to breathing problems. Treatment is aimed at relieving pain, improving mobility and preventing complications. It may involve non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, exercise and lifestyle modifications. With the right combination of treatments, many people with AS can achieve good long-term control of their symptoms.
