Sleep Wake Disorders
Sleep wake disorders are medical conditions related to an inability to maintain normal patterns of sleeping and wakefulness. These disorders can affect an individual’s ability to sleep, wake, and carry out daily activities such as work, school, or social engagements. As a result, individuals with sleep wake disorders often suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty staying asleep, abnormal REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, and problems with alertness and overall functioning. Treatments for sleep wake disorders include lifestyle modifications, medications, and psychological therapy depending on the individual and their specific disorder. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent long-term damage to the brain and other vital organs. Improving the quality of sleep is important for overall health and well-being.
