Sleep Behavior
Sleep behavior refers to the patterns of sleeping and waking in humans and other animals. It is essential for physical and mental health, and plays a role in learning and memory. Sleep behavior is influenced by circadian rhythms, which are daily cycles of activity in the body, and sleep disorders such as insomnia and narcolepsy. Poor sleep behavior is linked to obesity, depression, impaired cognitive performance and other health problems. Research suggests that improving sleep behavior can improve overall health and well being. Strategies for improving sleep behavior include maintaining a regular sleep schedule, avoiding stimulants in the evening and setting a relaxing bedtime routine.
