Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder classified by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in multiple locations of the body. It is one of the most common chronic pain conditions, frequently affecting women more than men. Fibromyalgia is often accompanied by sleep disturbances, muscle stiffness, headaches, and painful trigger points. While the cause of fibromyalgia is still under investigation, evidence suggests that it is the result of an abnormal processing of pain signals in the brain, leading to a heightened response to stimulus. Fibromyalgia is a serious condition that affects quality of life and has a large economic impact. Treatments for fibromyalgia include medications, physical and occupational therapy, lifestyle changes, and stress reduction. With proper treatment and self-care, people with fibromyalgia can learn to manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
