Skin Cancer in Young Adults & Older Adults
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in young adults and older adults. It occurs when abnormal skin cells grow out of control, forming a mass or tumor. Sun exposure is the main risk factor for skin cancer, especially for people with fair skin, a family history of skin cancer, or a history of sunburns. It is important for young adults and older adults to take measures to protect their skin when exposed to the sun. This can include wearing sunscreen, protective clothing, and limiting sun exposure. Early detection of skin cancer is also important, as it can be treated more successfully if found and addressed in its early stages. Regular skin checks can help with early detection, and those with a higher risk should discuss scheduling regular appointments with a dermatologist.
