Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare form of skin cancer that primarily occurs in adults. It is characterized by a slow-growing tumor that arises from the dermis, the connective tissue layer under the epidermis, and has a long, fibrous appearance. DFSP is one of the most common soft-tissue sarcomas, and while a tumor may not be life-threatening, its removal is important due to the risk of local recurrence and metastasis. Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment is necessary for successful management of this condition. Treatment options include surgical excision, Mohs micrographic surgery, and radiation therapy, depending on the size and location of the tumor. Patients should also receive regular follow-up visits with their doctor to monitor the condition. With proper diagnosis and treatment, DFSP can be effectively managed, and often cured.
