Spinal Muscular Atrophy
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a group of genetic disorders that affect the nerve cells in the spinal cord responsible for controlling muscle movement. This condition leads to muscle wasting and weakness, greatly affecting the quality of life and mobility of the affected individual. Treatments are available to manage the symptoms of SMA, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and medications. Unfortunately, a cure is yet to be found, but scientists and researchers are actively looking into new treatments and therapies that could significantly improve the lives of those affected by SMA.
