Orofacial Myology
Orofacial myology is a specialized form of speech therapy that focuses on the muscles of the face and mouth used in speech and eating. These muscles are important for proper pronunciation, positioning of the tongue, and body posture. It can be used to treat a range of speech, swallowing, and breathing issues such as facial muscle weakness, tongue thrust, tongue tie, fractured palate, difficult lip closure, and speech impediments. This therapy is also used to improve eating artfulness, mastication (chewing), and proper swallowing. Orofacial myology can improve speech clarity, oral motor skills, facial esthetics, and overall quality of life.
