Neuromuscular Disorders
Neuromuscular disorders are a group of conditions that affect the functioning of muscles and the connection of nerves to muscles. These conditions can lead to impairments in muscle strength and coordination, as well as other signs and symptoms. Examples of neuromuscular disorders include muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Treatment of neuromuscular disorders usually focuses on managing symptoms and slowing progression of disease. Physical and occupational therapy, medications, surgery, and lifestyle changes can all play a role in managing neuromuscular disorders. It is important to diagnose and treat neuromuscular disorders as soon as possible to prevent potentially disabling symptoms and complications.
