Clostridium Tetani

Clostridium Tetani is a gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium commonly found in soil. It produces a potent neurotoxin, known as tetanospasmin, which causes the very painful and potentially lethal condition known as tetanus. Tetanus is characterized by muscle spasms, stiffness, and difficulty in swallowing and breathing. Vaccination with the tetanus toxoid is the most effective way to prevent the development of tetanus, although good hygiene and prompt cleaning of wounds should also be carried out to reduce the risk of infection. Clostridium tetani is a globally distributed pathogen, and its neurotoxicity has been recognized as one of the most powerful toxins known to man.
