Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is a minimally invasive, endoscopic procedure used to treat recurrent or complicated sinus conditions. FESS is a procedure used in those who experience a variety of sinus-related symptoms, including nasal blockage, headaches, and impaired sense of smell. During the procedure, endoscopes are inserted through the nostrils to allow the surgeon to access the sinus cavities. Through the endoscopes, the surgeon can view any obstructions or inflamed sinus tissues and use special instruments to move or remove them. Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is a safe and effective way to treat many chronic sinus conditions. Unlike more traditional forms of sinus surgery, FESS is minimally invasive and doesn't require any cuts to the skin. It has the potential to reduce post-operative complications, reduce hospital stay and recovery time, and can improve a patient’s overall quality of life.
