Barotrauma
Barotrauma is an injury resulting from a sudden change in air or water pressure. It occurs when a person is exposed to an increase or decrease of pressure that is too rapid for their body to adjust to. Barotrauma can affect many organs of the body including the brain, ears, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms can be mild to severe, depending on the severity of the pressure change. Treatment typically involves the use of medications or decompression techniques to bring the pressure back to normal. Barotrauma is a serious condition that can cause permanent damage and even death if left untreated. It is important to seek medical attention immediately if experiencing barotrauma.
