Telepsychiatry

Telepsychiatry is the use of digital communication technology to provide mental health services, such as remote diagnosis and treatment, at a distance. It utilizes a variety of methods such as video conferencing, telephone consultations, text messaging, and email. The technology allows psychiatrists and other mental health professionals to connect with patients without them having to be in the same physical space, providing patients with easier access to quality mental health care. Telepsychiatry also has the potential to improve outcomes for those who are unable to access in-person services due to geographical constraints or health or mobility issues, as well as providing a much-needed service to rural, underserved communities often lacking access to mental health care providers. The use of telepsychiatry is steadily increasing as more and more people are turning to technology equipped healthcare, and it may soon become the new norm in mental health services.
