Substance Use Disorders
Substance use disorders (SUDs) are mental health conditions that involve the excessive use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and drugs, which can lead to significant impairment of an individual’s ability to function in daily life. SUDs can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the level of impairment the individual experiences. Treatment for SUDs typically consists of a combination of psychotherapy, medication, lifestyle changes, and support from family and friends. SUDs have a major negative impact on physical, psychological, and social health, as well as significantly increase the risk of developing other health problems. Identification and effective treatment of SUDs is essential in order to reduce the negative effects and improve quality of life.
