Cognitive Rehabilitation in Schizophrenia

Cognitive Rehabilitation (CR) is an important component of rehabilitation for people with schizophrenia. It involves the retraining of cognitive (mental) processes such as memory, attention, and problem solving to improve functioning and quality of life. Cognitive rehabilitation is used to reduce cognitive impairments and allow for improved functioning in daily activities, work and social interactions. It is also thought to play a role in reducing relapse and maintaining wellness. CR can be delivered in both individual and group settings and may include the use of computer-based and other interactive technologies. CR has been found to be effective in improving cognitive performance, quality of life, psychosocial functioning, and reducing relapse rates in people with schizophrenia.
