Respiratory Medicine
Respiratory Medicine is a branch of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating a wide range of breathing and respiratory system conditions. It includes diseases of the lungs, bronchi, pleura (lung lining), chest wall and respiratory muscles, as well as airways, blood vessels and nerves that control breathing. These conditions can cause mild symptoms such as a runny nose or a sore throat, or more serious symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, and fatigue. Respiratory Medicine is critical to managing and treating conditions such as asthma, COPD, and even chronic lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis. Treatment may include medications, lifestyle modification, and in some cases, minimally-invasive procedures or surgery.
