Pleural Disease
Pleural disease is a disorder of the membranes that line the thoracic cavity (pleural space) and enclose the lungs. It is often caused by an infection, inflammation, or malignant tumor, and is sometimes caused by trauma or surgery. Symptoms may include chest pain, shortness of breath, and dry cough. Treatment options can include antibiotics, drainage, surgery, and radiation therapy. Pleural disease is significant because it can greatly affect a person’s quality of life and can lead to serious medical complications. It is important to diagnose and treat pleural disease early in order to prevent serious health problems and improve outcomes.
