MALT Lymphoma
MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma is an aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. It is characterized by an abnormal accumulation of lymphocytes in the mucous membranes, including those of the stomach, lungs, and lower airways. Treatment options typically involve radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted drugs. This type of lymphoma is relatively rare and often has a good prognosis; however, some cases require more aggressive treatment. MALT lymphoma is important to diagnose and treat because it can progress to more advanced stages of cancer if left unchecked. With early detection and proper treatment, patients can typically achieve a full recovery.
