Legionella

Legionella is a bacteria commonly found in natural water sources that can cause a type of pneumonia known as Legionnaires' disease. The bacteria flourish in warm water, leading to an increased risk of infection in the summertime. Legionella is important to understand as it can have serious health implications, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and pneumonia, particularly in older individuals and those with weakened immune systems. Prevention of Legionella infections is possible through good water management and regular disinfection practices, making it an important issue for public health.
