Foodborne Trematodiases
Foodborne trematodiases are diseases caused by parasitic flatworms, known as trematodes, that are found in contaminated food and water. These parasites can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, as well as long-term effects such as liver damage, anemia, and malnutrition. Foodborne trematodiases are a leading cause of disease and death in many parts of the world, especially in developing countries. Prevention and control measures include improving water and food safety, as well as providing clean, safe drinking and cooking water. Education on food safety and good hygiene practices are also important to reducing the risk of foodborne trematodiases. Early diagnosis and treatment of those infected is key to prevent further spread of the disease and reducing the impact of these parasites.
