Thorium

Thorium is a naturally occurring element with atomic number 90 and symbol Th. It is a silvery-gray, radioactive metal and is one of the few elements that can be found in nature and is not artificially produced in a laboratory. Thorium is an important element to consider in nuclear energy production due to its high capacity for nuclear fission, which makes it an attractive alternative to constantly depleting resources such as uranium and plutonium. Thorium is also used in certain laboratory applications, neutron sources and in certain welding rods, as well as in lamps and production of certain optical glass. Its ability to resist corrosion and heat makes it a useful component in alloys and ceramics. In addition, thorium's unique properties also mean that it can be used as a source of energy in a variety of applications, including space exploration.
